I am starting into my last year of high school and have begun my long and painful search of colleges. Although I am from the USA I am extremely interested in colleges in the UK. If you have any comments, information, or have attended this college or others, please email me! I'd love to hear from you!!

Laura,

Hi. I was on the staff at Capernwray for just over 15 years, so I am more than a little biased. If you are looking for a college which is also a community, and a place where you will be exposed the God's Word and the impact it can have on your life, then there is no better place than the Hall. Plus you'd have the opportunity to meet people from several other cultural backgrounds and the obvious benefit of being able to probably do some travelling in either the UK or Europe, or both, in the holiday breaks.

Hope this helps - if you want to know anymore, drop me a line. May God guide you clearly in your search.

Robin.

I was a student at Capernwray Hall for winter school in September 1990 and Spring school 1991. I went just having left school and thoroughly enjoyed my time at Capernwray.
I found that my time there gave me a really good grounding in Biblical knowlegde and I was able to grow closer to God. I also made friends from all over the world. I'd recommend Capernwray to anyone looking to grow in their faith and live in the family atmosphere that is provided.

I did go to Capernwray, but I no longer recommend it. Instead, I recommend visiting Vineyard at http://www.vineyardchurchesuk.com/index.asp or Assembly of God at http://www.aog.org.uk/ to see what they recommend.

Hi Vanessa,
I went to Capernwray for winterschool 2000/01 and it was the most amazing six months of my life, both for getting to know God better, but also for making friends with people from all over the world. I come from Denmark, and now I could probably visit every state in the US, all of Canada and nearly every country in Europe, and always have a Christian friend to stay with. It's two years since I left now, and I'm still in contact with so many people. The teaching at Cape is super, and also it is great to meet with people from all sorts of churches and cultures. As you can hear, I only have positive things to say about this place and I'll recommend anyone going there. If you want to know more or anything, please email me.
Take care and I hope you find out what you are to do.
In Him - Marie

Please be aware that these are only my suggestions and your experience may be different from mine, but whatever you do, please remember to pray about whatever decision you make.

Hi,
I was at Capernwray for winter and spring school 1998/99 and it truly was the most amazing and best time of my life. God taught me so many things about Him and also about myself during my time in England. For me, Capernwray was the best opportunity to grow and mature. The Biblical knowledge I gained at Bible school is still very helpful for me personally and also for my involvement in my church. And of course, meeting so many people from different countries and backgrounds is of great value!
May God guide you in your decisions.
In Christ,
Barbara

By all means go. I attended Capernwray Hall Winter School 1991-92. The one thing Cape has always done well is the spiritual fellowship. But you will only get out of it, what you are prepared to put into it. If you want to grow then you will. If you only want a holiday try Euro Disney - I hear it is fun. I love my memories of Cape, and it started me on a journey of discovery. My relationship with God has deepened since, but it is where my journey began. It could be your starting point too

I encourage you to definitely pray about your decision and let God lead you where ever He wills. My time at Capes was great. The friends and fellowship were awesome and I learned much about myself and God. If you end up at Capes go on as many outings as possible, get to know the staff and spend lots of time outdoors. You'll never regret it.

I agree with Jessica and Paul. It is a super school and you will get some great teaching. But It is super important to put in as much as possible to integrate with the other students as well as the surroundings..Get out there and explore. More importantly. Go for the right reasons. The reason someone chooses bible school shouldn't be to travel or to have fun with out parents... It needs to be all about developing your relationship with God. If thats what your up for- go for it C'wray is awesome. If not- don't waste your time or the time of those whoare there.

I am really interested in going to the Capernwray in Spain. If anyone has gone there I would love to hear about your experiences. Was it nice to go to school with a smaller number of people, what kind of activities were there, did you grow spiritually as much as you expected? It's only offered for three months I believe, that seems really short, was it worth it? If you have time please reply!!

Angela, some of the people who have been to RioVida have left their email addresses on our website in the Find-a-Friend section at left. Check there, and maybe email one of them...

I am interested in Capenwray too (also from the US) why don't you recommend it? I've only heard good things, I'd like to hear what you have to say.

Well well...

I just returned from attending the 02 winter and 03 spring terms at Capernwray Hall. The short version is:

Best school year of my life. You will be blessed. They could charge twice as much and I'd still recommend it. Go.

Long version:
But yeah, richest school year of my life? You bet. Good people? Fantastic people, 'specially Rob and the staff girls. Solid teaching? Yes, it ranges from basic to pretty deep, but you get what you put into it. Accomodations? You're living in a MANOR for crying out loud! So you can't always get hot water -- you can't usually live in an English manor with a cobblestone courtyard and a tower with an 80 step spiral staircase going up into it either.

Me, I've made a lot of friends... sure, a lot are the drift through your life and bless you type you never see again but think back on years after... a few are the great type you remain in touch with over the decades. The international atmosphere is fantastic... makes it a very very rich experience... the countryside is gorgeous, and this is from a guy who doesn't like to get out much... of course you get to travel Europe, a month if you go to winter and spring school! It's just... yeah, sounds like one of those cheesy testimonials, I know. But it IS life-changing. Go with an open heart, some spare change, and a willingness to try Marmite. You'll love it. The school, not the Marmite, I mean.

Email me: desvonatmyrealbox.com (replace the at with @, ya know) if you want to ask any questions. Would love to feed more people to the Hall.

Michael, if this was your idea, cheers! Was a good one.

PS. If you go, take two things above all else: A digital camera and the board game 'Settlers of Catan'. Vets of my year will know of what I speak.

PPS. Yeah, if anyone I know is reading this, I'm doin' well. Working in the tech industry. No plans for marriage with Chara - yet. Email me.

I just don't care for the cessationalist teachings of people like John MacArthur or Hank Hanegraaf. Also, some of my former classmates have responded in a harsh, unChristlike way to some of my friendly, well-meaning e-mails since my going to that school.

Hi Laura, I am from the U.S. and attended Capernwray Winter School in 87/88. I also worked on staff during Capernwray Spring school and attended Upward Bound at Tauernhof (Austrian School) that summer. I had already completed four years of college before attending Capernwray. For me this was good, as I had already worked the "away from home" thing out of my system and was able to approach the experience from a more mature perspective. As others have said, the most important thing is, for you to go because God wants you there. Those who bring the teaching at Capernwray come from a variety of countries and Christian disciplines. This is done to bring an overall balance to the teaching as a whole. Naturally there will be some in the mix with whom you do not completely agree, just as in life. A big part of the program at Capernwray has been outreach. A student has many opportunities to apply what is learned through outreach activities. These experiences helped me to better understand what areas God had gifted me in for his purposes. One of the greatest benefits of attending Capernwray is the multi-national nature of the student body. Quite honestly, most of us from the U.S. have a very sheltered Christian experience. Interacting with brothers and sisters in Christ from other countries is priceless and enables one to see a much larger picture of God's greater plan and work in the world. If you attend Capernwray with an open-hearted desire to seek a deeper walk with God and avail yourself of the unique opportunities afforded by it's environment, you will come away a changed person. I encourage you to seek God fervently for his will. If he says, "Go!" then go for it! -John

I found Capernwray an exhilarating experience (30 years ago now!), but the teaching to be rather insubstantial and not of a high calibre. Keep a close check on life realities, be understanding of others, and stive to know something of the Greatness of God. In the difficult times when you are feeling small and alone, remember 2 things - that God knows, and that God is good.

Thanks a bunch!
